BRAZIL ARE HERE! Vinícius Jr & Ancelotti Arrive in Kolkata for Historic India Clash

KOLKATA, October 2, 2026 — Brazil have arrived in Kolkata ahead of their much-anticipated international friendly against India on Saturday, with five-time world champions preparing for their first-ever senior men's meeting with the Blue Tigers.

The Brazilian squad received a huge welcome from football fans in the city after landing, with Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior, captain Marquinhos and coach Carlo Ancelotti among the major names attracting attention.

The match will be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, popularly known as Salt Lake Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 PM IST on October 3. Brazil are currently ranked fifth in the FIFA men's rankings, while India are 138th, making the Seleção the highest-ranked opponent India have faced since the FIFA ranking system began.

Ancelotti said Brazil have full respect for India and described the game as an opportunity for his players to show their quality.

"I hope it will be an entertaining game," Ancelotti said, adding that he wanted his players to enjoy themselves and play with joy.

Brazil enter the contest after playing two friendlies against Australia during the international window. They drew the first game 1–1 before winning the second 4–2.

However, Barcelona winger Raphinha will miss the India match after suffering a right-thigh injury during the victory over Australia and returning to Spain for treatment.

There is also uncertainty over how much Vinícius Júnior will play. The Real Madrid forward featured against Australia and scored from the penalty spot, but Brazil are managing his workload with club football ahead.

Brazil captain Marquinhos said the team was delighted to be in India and acknowledged the country's enormous support for Brazilian football.

For India, the match represents one of the biggest fixtures in the national team's history. The Blue Tigers enter the contest after a 1–1 draw against Panama and will face another World Cup heavyweight, Uruguay, in Kolkata on October 6.

With thousands of fans expected at Salt Lake Stadium, all eyes now turn to Saturday night as India prepare to welcome one of football's most decorated national teams.
