Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif recently shared his perspective regarding future India lineups on his YouTube channel, asserting that youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will likely break into the starting T20I eleven within six months. According to his projection, this rise would put pressure on established members Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube, potentially leading to one of them being dropped.
Kaif noted that Sooryavanshi has expanded his skill set by bowling during the Duleep Trophy, adding utility to his aggressive batting approach. Examining the statistical backdrop, Sooryavanshi accumulated 193 runs across six T20Is in 2026 at an average of 32.17 alongside a strike rate of 189.22, following an impressive IPL campaign featuring 776 runs and 72 sixes.
Despite the bold claims regarding his spot, Tilak Varma maintains solid numbers this year with 395 runs at an average of 35.91 and a 154.90 strike rate, suggesting any lineup debates would stem from differing tactical philosophies rather than poor form. Meanwhile, Kaif questioned Shivam Dube's utility as a limited overs specialist, pointing to his fielding shortcomings and lack of developmental bowling credentials despite hitting 415 T20I runs at a 31.92 average this year.
Dube also contributed 235 runs during the T20 World Cup at a strike rate of 169.06. However, official usage highlights his role primarily as a batsman who delivers occasional overs, having bowled just 26 times across 23 matches in 2026 while claiming 12 wickets at an economy rate of 12.44.
